There are plenty of restaurants in Kai Bae Beach as well as lively bars down the straight sandy beach. Lovers of Italian cuisine have a choice of eateries to choose from, whilst there is also authentic Thai fare with a twist and plenty of classy venues that mix a mean cocktail.
Most Kai Bae restaurants are set back from the sand on the main road, but all the main resorts on the sand also have eateries – albeit usually at higher prices than free-standing offerings. There are also plenty of shops around for those with cooking facilities in their apartment complexes.
Recommended Kai Bae Beach Restaurants
Terrific Italian food at this Kai Bae beach restaurant which is located on the left just as you enter Kai Bae. Their huge dishes of antipasti are great, as are the pizzas, the ravioli and pretty much everything else.
This small, one-unit, Kai Bae beach restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside but it has a good reputation amongst locals for serving excellent pizzas and Italian food at reasonable rates. You will find the restaurant on the right hand side as you turn down the side road to the pier opposite Kai Bae’s second 7-Eleven store.
This bakery and deli makes excellent bread. Their baguette sandwiches featuring imported cheeses and meats make a great lunch. They have good coffee and also make a variety of cakes and pastries.
Pirates Pub “Sir Henry Morgan”
One of very few themed Kai Bae beach restaurants on Koh Chang this is a place that you can’t miss as you enter Kai Bae because of their rather conspicuous red and white striped lighthouse. There is open air seating downstairs and an air-conditioned restaurant upstairs. They have European and Thai food but since their head chef is Russian it is a good idea to try one of their Russian specials.
Mak Mak advertises Kai Bae’s best pizzas, and they are certainly pretty good. They also have good steaks and Thai food and families will be interested in the fact that they are one of very few places around with a children’s play area.
Ta-Tum Steak House
Ta-Tum is a popular steak house in the heart of Kai Bae village. They guarantee that they only use imported Australian beef and also have an extensive European and seafood menu.
Recommended Kai Bae Beach Bars
Mojito, billing itself as the funky cocktail club, is a nicely sophisticated little Kai Bae beach bar. They specialise in cocktails including, as you’d imagine, the Mojito.
This place is rapidly becoming one of Kai Bae’s most popular evening haunts and is one of the places to go to after other places close.
Kai Bae Beer Bars
There is a small collection of six or seven Kai Bae beer bars just beside the Kai Bae road bridge. This is a smaller version of the ‘mini-Pattaya’ area of White Sand Beach, so that means it is effectively a ‘mini-mini-Pattaya’. Anyway the bars have pool tables, connect-four and multitudes of female staff.
There’s good food and drinks on offer at Nangnual but the highlight has to be their nightly cabaret show featuring some of the most convincing ladies-who-aren’t-ladies that you’ll ever see.
